Q: How many batteries will I need to go with the Grape Solar 100-Watt Off-Grid Solar Kit?
A: You will need at least one 12 Volt battery to attach to this system to store the power generated by the solar panel. You can have 10kW of solar panels charging a 36Ah battery or you could have one 100W panel charging 1200Ah of batteries. The panel just affects how quickly the battery can be charged. If the battery bank is fully charged the charge controller will prevent over charging.
Q: Are batteries included with this solar panel kit?
A: No, they're not. Please see the "Related Items" tab for the batteries we recommend for this system.
Q: What inverters will work with this solar panel with charge controller?
A: In an off-grid battery backup system, the inverter is connected to a battery bank and the panels feed power into the battery bank through a charge controller. Since the inverter isn't directly connected to the panels, you can use any size inverter you want as long as it is compatible with your battery bank and the devices you plan to power. You can have 10kW of solar panels in the same system as a 450W inverter or you could have one 100W panel in the same system as a 7kW inverter. The size of the inverter just limits the size of the devices that your system can power, which affects how quickly the battery bank is drained. Q: If the charge controller is lowering the voltage, am I losing power?
A: Power equals voltage multiplied by current (amps). When the charge controller lowers the voltage it increases the current, like a transformer.
Q: My equipment is connected correctly but I'm barely getting any current, why?
A: Check the voltage of your battery bank. If it is over 13V the charge controller may be reducing the flow to prevent over charging the battery. This means your system is working perfectly. Dennis: The entry-level Grape Solar GS-100 Kit offers a hundred watts of DC power. It is a very simple, plug and play kit that only takes about 5 to 10 minutes to assemble. It is ideal for use in boats and RVs, for a variety of applications including small pumps, LED lights and even battery charging.
This kit has been designed to include everything you need to charge a 12-volt battery bank so you can get up and running as quickly as possible.
Sara: Let's take a look at the components that make up the kit. This kit is exceptionally easy to assemble and use.
First, the heart of the system is the Grape Solar 100-watt crystalline panel. The panel is designed with industry standard MC4 connectors used for their durability and weather resistance. The back of the panel has mounting holes which allow you to mount the panel in various ways. Using the included MC4 cables, you connect the Grape Solar panel to the 40 Amp Comet charge controller. The cables include an MC4 connector on one end and a bare wire on the other end which connects to the charge controller's terminal block.
The 40 Amp Comet charge controller prevents overcharging your batteries, as well as keeping your batteries from back-feeding. Hello I just purchased this panel. My question is do I need to purchase wiring from the panel to the controller. Also, what size gauge do I need.
